Lord Soth


Knight of the Black Rose, Follower of the Dark Queen.

Lord Soth (Known as simply "Soth" on IllusionMUD) is IllusionMUD's head software architect/Implementor, overseeing and pretty much writing all the silly if()'s, gain_experience()'s, and raw_kill()'s. He is an Electrical Engineer in real life and is an avid C programmer. He started the IllusionMUD project to sharpen his C programming skills, but mostly to piss off Takhisis who played MUDs too much and still didn't know much about Godship. Gaining the knowledge on how MUDs worked by examining, modifying, and adding code, he tells Takhisis how to use the system.

After the learnings of CircleMUD, there was some interest in regenerating some of Takhisis' all-time favorite Advanced Dungeons and Dragons computer games. The games that inspired the most were SSI's Death Knights of Krynn and Dark Queen of Krynn. These two games gave to the names of the proprietors of IllusionMUD. Countless hours of programming IllusionMUD during Lord Soth's college years that should have been spent studying brought forth a pretty impressive, high-capability MUD core. Takhisis, who loved reading the Dragonlance novels, supplied the direction on what features to add to the MUD core to more accurately model the Dragonlance world.

Lord Soth chose the name "Lord Soth" before he knew about all of the history of the character. It was a quite shocking experience to learn of the past of this strange character. However it was quite clear that the administrators of the MUD quite needed to be evil characters - Because it would be hard to roleplay a good character and yet be able to make changes that would sometimes be "unfair" to the players in order to remove some sort of abuse mechanism the MUD was not intended to be used as.

The name stuck though. Still needed to be a pretty powerful, popular character that was under Takhisis's control. Without Takhisis, this world would not be possible.
